Damian Serbu lives in the Chicago area with his partner of seventeen years and two dogs. After earning a Ph.D. in history (2001), he now teaches at the collegiate level. His love for vampires – and all things horrific – fused together with his academic training to inspire his first novel, The Vampire’s Angel. A childhood nightmare led to his second novel, Secrets in the Attic, forthcoming summer 2010.

Political Prisoner Letter Writing Night / "Born In Flames" Film Screening!

Join us for the first of a monthly series of Political Prisoner Letter Writing night events, along with a screening of the radical cult classic film, "Born in Flames"!

From 7:30 to 8:30, folks will gather to write letters and send birthday cards to some of the political prisoners locked up in the US whose birthdays take place in February, including Byron Shane Chubbuck, Albert Woodfox, and Veronza Bowers, Jr. There will also be letters on hand from LGBT prisoners seeking penpals and support. Come out and show your support for folks on the inside.

Join Internationalist Books as we table at SOHIPOTOME, a weekend of radio/honors/concert events recognizing and honoring women in and of the culture of Hip Hop. The 2nd Annual SOHIPOTOME event takes place March 11-13, 2010, with a radio special via WXYC on the evening of the 11th and events during the day and the evening at the Durham Arts Council. You'll find us on Saturday, March 13th from 8 PM to midnight, tabling with a variety of books and merchandise relating to feminism and women's issues, African-American studies, hip hop and music, and more.

The festival, which takes place on Duke University's East Campus in Durham, will feature tons of vendors, community groups, performers, and thousands of LGBTQ North Carolinians. Renowned poet and Hillsborough resident Jeffery Beam will bring his latest collection of riveting, passionate poems to Internationalist Books! "The Beautiful Tendons: Uncollected Queer Poems 1969-2007" brings together more than three decades of lyrical, metaphysical Gay poetry from native North Carolinian Jeffery Beam. The vast majority of these poems are unpublished in any of his previously published books, but were originally published in many of the most important gay magazines & anthologies of the latter half of the 20th century.
