Join us for this exciting literary event as Chapel Hill resident and longtime Internationalist supporter James Protzman reads from his brand new novel, "Jesus Swept". The unlikely tale of hope lost, found and lost again on the North Carolina coast, "Jesus Swept" celebrates a philosophy of life you can put on a bumper sticker, with Hook, Sinker, Liz, Frank, Dog, and Jesus himself, six souls twisted in a tangle of family threads that will make you cry until you laugh - or until you try dying. The Pentagon just ordered 16,000 additional troops to the war in Afghanistan. But what are they fighting for? And how likely are they to succeed? "Combat Outpost", a 10-minute documentary produced by the Guardian Newspaper (February 2009), brilliantly highlights the failures of the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan. The documentary footage from a reporter's trip to a combat outpost in Afghanistan helps us understand why the U.S. is losing its war against the Afghan people, and what the inevitable results of the Pentagon's "surge" will be.
